Zenith Design & Renovations builds homes that work for people of every age and ability, and we want our website to do the same. This statement covers this website, the booking and intake pages, and the project pages we send to clients.
Our target
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. In practice that means:
- Every page works with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline and a "Skip to main content" link.
- Text and controls have enough colour contrast, and nothing relies on colour alone.
- Images have text alternatives; decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
- Forms have labels, say which fields are needed, and explain errors in words.
- Pages have clear headings and landmarks so screen-reader users can move around them.
- Buttons and links are large enough to tap, and the site works when zoomed to 200% and on a phone.
- If your device is set to reduce motion, our slideshows stop and animations are turned off.
How we test
- An automated check (axe-core) of the public pages, the booking and intake pages, the client project page and our own staff screens, at desktop and phone sizes.
- A keyboard pass on the same pages: the skip link, the focus order, a visible focus outline at every stop, and no place where focus gets stuck.
- Manual checks with a screen reader and with the device set to reduce motion.
Automated tools find only part of the problems, so we also welcome your feedback.
What we know is not there yet
- The 3D design views. The 3D room views and walk-throughs we use in design visits are visual by nature. Everything they show is also in the written design summary and the scope of work we send you, and our design team will walk you through it in whatever way works for you.
- Photo galleries. Our project and design-concept photos have short descriptions, but they cannot capture every detail. Ask us and we will describe a project in more depth.
- Documents. Some older PDFs (estimates, contracts and product sheets from suppliers) may not be fully accessible. We can send the same information in another format.
Tell us about a barrier
If something on this site is hard to use, or you need information in another format (large print, a plain text email, a phone call to go through it together), please tell us:
- Email [email protected] with "Website accessibility" in the subject.
- Call (587) 812-4500 (Edmonton) or (250) 999-4500 (Prince George).
- Or use our contact page.
Tell us the page and what got in the way. Our goal is to reply within two business days and to fix the problem or offer another way to get what you need.
Laws
Canada's Accessible Canada Act applies mainly to the federal government and federally regulated organizations, such as banks, airlines and telecommunications companies. British Columbia's Accessible British Columbia Act applies to the provincial government and to public-sector and other organizations named in its regulations. As a private renovation company, Zenith is not one of the organizations named under either Act. We follow WCAG 2.2 level AA anyway, because it is the right standard for a company that builds accessible homes.
